Author: Julia Green is the Course Director on the MA in Creative Writing for Young People at Bath Spa, and has had three novels published by Puffin. She lives in Bath.
A perfect coming of age for any young girl just tipping into teenhood.
Sypnosis: Freya has come to visit her grandparents who live on a remote island. Last year she visited them with her brother - but last year her brother died alone in a boating accident. Whilst back on the island, Freya finds a way, with the calming presence of her grandparents and the gentle care and attention of the people around her, to adjust to the fact that her brother has gone, and that life - and love - are still vibrantly in the air.
Review: This book definitely touched my heart. I loved the ending. I would like to quote this paragraph
'Accidents happen. Things change utterly in an instant. This is my life now, here, without Joe. You just have to get on with it. Keep hold of the memories. Seize the small moments of happiness.'
This phrase is inspiring to me. When I read the book, I felt as if i was in the book. When I was at the library looking through the teens section, I found this book. I read the summary and I thought this book was just what I needed to start the new school year with! There is a second book that has not be published yet.The book is called Bringing the Summer.
